Can iOS5 On The White iPhone 4S Outshine Android Ice Cream Sandwich

One week prior to the release of the White iPhone 4 Apple will launch the latest version of it famous operating system. The new iOS5 platform features many improvements which the developers hope will push the platform ahead of its biggest rival Android. Android themselves however are about to launch a massive update of their own system in the shape of the strangely named Ice Cream Sandwich. Does the new Apple update offer enough to put daylight between itself and its biggest rival?

The release of iOS5 is perhaps the most important ever for Apple as recently they have seen Android grab the market share of US users with a massive 36 per cent compared with their own share of 26 per cent. In terms of handset sales the iPhone ranked only fourth behind the likes of Samsung, LG and Motorola. Thus the launch of both the new platform and White iPhone 4 is critical for the company. The Ice Cream Sandwich update of Android is the first to merge mobile handsets and tablet devices and give users one platform which can be used across all of their devices. Previous to this Tablet users were given the Android 3.0 Honeycomb platform whilst phone users had version 2.3. The new operating system not only enables simple synchronisation between multiple devices but means all Android users can now download applications designed to work on all units which should subsequently help the platform gain a bigger market share in terms of downloads. Developers will also be pleased with this latest version as they can now design a single program rather than design different versions for different devices. This is all pretty impressive stuff from Android, however Apple has a few tricks up its sleeve with iOS5. Apple have used universal applications for their devices for some time now meaning they can focus their efforts on improving what is the most user friendly platform to date.
